A: I have been using AutoPasTE lately, so I am adding a new answer to this question. Saturday, May 29, 2010 Spring Showers Make Us Greener Spring is in the air. It feels like the sun is coming out from behind the clouds that make up the gray and brown of a dreary Canadian winter. It is so refreshing to see a green grass again. I love these moments. This Sunday, May 30th we are having Spring Fling at the elementary school. The trees have all of the new leaves on them and it is as beautiful as a green unicorn. It really is a pretty sight to see. For all of the sudden rains, the climate in this area has been a bit on the cool side. The temperature is a bit lower than it should be for this time of the year. It will be an air temperature of 15 degrees C in the morning and 12 in the afternoon. Now, onto the subject of the title. In the past, the city of Thunder Bay had a policy of treating our wastewater as a source of irrigation for landscaping. During the winter months, this was typically not done because of the cost of treating the excess water that was going into the sewer. As we continued to grow, we were looking for a new source of water. Since the hydro treatment plant was not large enough to provide the amount of water we needed for our landscaping, we decided to look for a new water source to come into our community. Since the sewage plant uses treated wastewater to help flush our sewage pipes, the city decided to use this water to help water our parks. We now call it the Rain Water Collection System. In an area such as Thunder Bay, where the water table is deep, the system is considered to be a success. The Rain Water Collection System is a system which collects rain water, which is free, for irrigation use. The system consists of a catchment basin, a roof over the rain barrel, a water treatment system, and a drainage system which leads to a downspout. The catchment basin is where the rain water is first collected. A roof, typically made of metal or plastic, is placed over the catchment basin. The roof acts as a funnel to help guide the rain water into the catchment basin. The roof is drained through an opening in the bottom of the catchment basin. The water is directed through a water treatment system. This treatment system, which is typically made of a mixture of sand and rock, helps to reduce the salt content in the water to below 50 ppm. The drainage system is the main component of the Rain Water Collection System. It takes the water from the bottom of the catchment basin to the downspout. At the bottom of the catchment basin, there is typically a small drain that allows the water to escape. Downspouts are typically set back a distance from 972550f159
